Study Roundup: Strokes Increasingly Affecting Younger People

According to a new study, the occurrence of strokes in people under 55 is on the rise.

Strokes are increasingly occurring in younger people, says a new study published in the October 10th online issue of Neurology. As diabetes, obesity, and high cholesterol are on the rise, the rate of stroke in those younger than 55 is not likely to decrease, say the study authors, who looked at stroke occurrences in people between 20 and 54 years of age in Ohio and Kentucky. Poor diet and exercise choices—both of which are risk factors for diabetesobesityhigh cholesterol, and high blood pressure—are also likely to play a role in this trend.
