As Hostess Folds, Congress Thinks of New Ways To Kill Snack Food Industry

"Instead, I grew up – horrors! – eating discount store bread and homemade cookies and cakes. There wasn’t a Twinkie to be found in my lunchbox throughout my entire childhood (though we did have the occasional Little Debbie cake when we were feeling flush). All of the marketing efforts in the world weren’t going to make my über-shopper mom believe that our lives would somehow be better if she bought Twinkies. Or Hohos. Or Wonder Bread. And no amount of wheedling and whining from us would have changed her mind.

That’s why I find it curious that Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) has introduced a bill to deny federal tax deductions associated with marketing so-called “junk food” to children. Apparently, Kucinich believes that kids are calling the shots in most households – and it’s making them fat."
