UAE squares up to men’s health issues
DUBAI: “Many governments have pursued men’s health for obvious reasons. But, the Ministry of Health (MoH) of the UAE is the first ministry of health in the public sector to establish a men’s clinic which would surely benefit the entire society,” said Dr Ridwan Shabsigh, president of the International Society of Men’s Health (ISMH).
...........................
He explained that men’s health encompasses male gender specific diseases, non-gender diseases which have high prevalence rates and strong impact on men, as well as behaviour patterns and social situations that have serious effects on men.

Shabsigh said that women generally live longer than men and in the UAE, that is 79.42 years for women as against 76.71 years in men.

“More men die of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, metabolic problems and cancers,” Shabsigh also said.

“Men get sick earlier in life than women and more men get depressed - the ration is at two men to one woman,” he pointed out.
