Former Secretary of Army named to CPRIT board

Speaker of the House Joe Straus Tuesday announced the appointment of Pete Geren, president of the Fort Worth-based Sid W. Richardson Foundation, to the oversight committee of the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas. Geren succeeds Barbara Canales of Corpus Christi.
Straus said he expects Geren to play a key role in helping "restore public trust" at CPRIT, which has been under fire since May for procedural missteps in the awarding of tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded grants.
