Meningitis: Michigan and Florida report deaths

The death toll from the fungal meningitis outbreak has reached 53, with Michigan now having surpassed Tennessee in lives lost, according to the latest numbers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Two new deaths — one in Michigan and one in Florida — were recorded since the CDC last updated case counts two weeks ago. Although Florida has had fewer fungal infections than some of the other states, the cases there have been more severe. Five of the 25 people sickened in Florida have died.
