Far from ideal: "people may not always know they are at an unhealthy weight to begin with"

Americans ‘Ideal’ Weight Is At Dangerous All-Time High

"According to a new Gallup poll, the ideal weight that most Americans believe is healthy is on the rise. In fact, it’s at an all-time high, proving that our nation’s increase in obesity is only contributing to a false sense of what a healthy body weight really is.
.............................
As the size of adults continues to increase and the size of their family and friends also increases, it can be easy to assume that the ideal, healthy weight should be higher. In other words, it’s the new normal.
But it’s also a dangerous normal. Americans are now settling for higher ideals when it comes to what a healthy weight is. The survey also showed that even though two-thirds were overweight or obese, only 25% were “seriously trying” to lose weight, demonstrating that people may not always know they are at an unhealthy weight to begin with.
Of course, there is no ideal weight that fits everyone, so not every woman should strive to be 140 pounds and not every man should strive to be 185 pounds–especially because these weights can be considered overweight according to some charts.
The only true way to know what your ideal weight should be is to consult with a doctor who can be realistic and honest. Once you learn what is normal and healthy for you, it’s a lot easier to disregard how much other people think you should weigh and set your own ideal standards."
