"If our medical malpractice system is broken we need rigorous empirical studies to provide data that will drive and substantiate appropriate policy remedies, overcome deeprooted political stances entrenching the current system, and afford physician buy-in that will ultimately ensure policy success. But unfortunately, hard evidence of the effectiveness (or lack thereof) of medical malpractice litigation in meeting its two policy goals—patient compensation and patient safety—is scant."
