Email suggests cancer initiative resignations were welcomed

By Eric Berger, Todd Ackerman | Wednesday, October 17, 2012

"Mansour's message, obtained by the Chronicle, follows the resignations not only of Gilman and Sharp, but of the agency's seven other chief scientific reviewers and many of the dozens of other scientists who served on committees set up to ensure a fair process of scientific grant distribution.
"Gilman is gone and so is his influence," Mansour wrote.
Mansour inadvertently sent the email, intended for agency officials, to one of the resigning scientific reviewers as well.
In response to a Chronicle inquiry, Mansour denied that he's glad to see the departure of scientists who cried foul over an $18 million grant to the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for the commercialization of cancer drugs."
