Thirty-five men from the 7th Group died during the first attack. We were especially hurt by the loss of our commanding officer, Major Davis. We'd met him first at Angel Island when our small group from March Field had been attached to the 7th. He cam into our barracks where we six, the six good friends, were housed.
"Where are you boys from?"
"We're from Texas, sir."
"All of you?"
"Well...Thompson, he's from Arizona."
