California's stem cell agency CIRM defends record

One subject that didn't come up was the ugly conflict of interest scandal in Texas, with its publicly funded agency to fight cancer. CalledCPRIT, the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, the agency has been scarred by alleged favoritism in doling out grants. The agency is a near-clone of CIRM, funded by $3 billion in state bonds, the same as in California. CIRM has not endured nearly the same magnitude of scandal as CPRIT; its grants are reviewed by a scientific board composed entirely of researchers living outside of California.
