Lone Star Family Health Center Hosts See, Test & Treat Event Providing No-Cost Breast and Cervical Cancer Screenings

CONROE, TX - On October 18, 2014, Lone Star Family Health Center, with locations in Conroe and Spring, TX, hosted See, Test and Treat, an event providing breast and cervical cancer screenings at no-cost to participants.  The event was sponsored by the College of American Pathologists.  Women attending the program underwent pelvic and breast exams, with a Pap test and mammogram if needed. The program featured same day tests results, diagnoses and follow-up care for uninsured and underserved women ages 21 and older. More than 140 people received services during the event.  Traditional screening procedures often require women to visit health care professionals at least twice - once to have an exam and again to receive follow-up care. A number of factors, including the lack of financial resources,  limited access to transportation, cultural and language barriers, lack of child care and inability to take time off from work, prevent many women from seeking routine care.
