E-mails complicate view of Paterno’s role in Sandusky scandal

"Mr. Sandusky was convicted June 22 of 45 counts of sexually assaulting young boys. Yet, as the e-mails reveal, the group decided that its decision not to report a former colleague was the “humane” thing to do.

Assuming the accuracy of these e-mails, what was the full extent of Mr. Paterno’s involvement in the alleged coverup of the scandal? What exactly held these administrators back? How is it possible for a group of four adults to conclude that the “humane” thing to do was to ignore the plight of an abused 10-year-old boy?"
