DR. ABDUL HAMID ZARGAR
"Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a condition in which a woman has an imbalance of female sex hormones. This may lead to menstrual cycle changes, cysts in the ovaries, trouble getting pregnant, and other health changes. This disorder is one of the most common female endocrine disorders. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a complex, heterogeneous disorder of uncertain cause, which produces symptoms in approximately 5% to 10% of women of reproductive age (12–45 years old). It is thought to be one of the leading causes of female sub-fertility and the most frequent endocrine problem in women of reproductive age. Our research has shown that 25 % of adult Kashmiri women in reproductive age group have suggestion of PCOS.

Where PCOS is associated with overweight or obesity, successful weight loss is the most effective method of restoring normal ovulation/menstruation, but many women find it very difficult to achieve and sustain significant weight loss. Low-carbohydrate diets and sustained regular exercise may help. Some experts recommend diet in which a significant part of total carbohydrates are obtained from fruit, vegetables and whole grain sources."
