Genetic point of no return in obesity found in new research (Video)
"Malcolm Low at the University of Michiganand colleagues initiated a research study with mice to disprove the commonly held hypothesis that chronic weight gain causes the body to adopt a state that supports excess weight. The hypothesis explains why so many overweight people regain lost weight and eventually give up on diet control as a preventative for obesity and the health conditions that result from obesity like higher rates of diabetes.
The researchers were not successful in disproving the hypothesis but did add weight to the concept that a certain point can be reached in obesity where no return is possible because the body has adapted to an obese state as a permanent condition."
