Sarcopenia can cause decreases in physical functioning, disability and loss of independence. It also makes it more difficult to maintain cardiovascular activities that can be helpful for other health problems — like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. When muscles lose strength, older adults are also at greater risk for falling and other injuries. Fractures, especially those of the hip, can often lead to other more problematic outcomes."
