Former UT regent pledges $25 million to business school

Dallas businessman Robert B. Rowling didn’t decide to donate $25 million to the University of Texas because it’s been criticized recently by some members of its governing board. But he likes the timing.
“These guys (on the campus) need a shot in the arm,” Rowling, 59, a former member of the UT System Board of Regents, told the American-Statesman on Thursday, a few hours after he and his wife, Terry, visited the Austin flagship campus to sign paperwork pledging the gift, which will help pay for a new building for the McCombs School of Business. “I love being able to stand up right now and say this is a great institution.”
A day earlier, the UT board voted 4-3 to commission an independent review of the use of donated money by the UT School of Law. And during the past two years, the regents and UT President Bill Powers have clashed on tuition, faculty productivity and the organization of the fundraising office, among other matters.
