Abandoned on Bataan: One Man's Story of Survival [Paperback]
Oliver Craig Allen (Author), Mildred Faye Allen (Author)P. 171
"Our treatment of the Japanese after they were taken prisoner was a true classic, concrete example of our national philosophy. We could have retaliated in kind, an eye for an eye, but we didn't. I suppose if we'd been fighting for our lives, it would have been different. Now we had the upper hand and could wreak any vengeance on them we wished, but we didn't. I often wondered what thoughts went through the Japanese minds. I think they were confused. If the situation had been reversed they would have retaliated."
