Transformation of pathologists: responding in a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment.
"What then can pathologists do? ‘‘In general, the premises of VUCA tend to shape [one’s] capacity to (1) anticipate the issues that shape conditions, (2) understand the consequences of issues and actions, (3) appreciate the interdependence of variables, (4) prepare for alternative realities and challenges, [and] (5) interpret and address relevant opportunities.’’3 The extent to which pathologists can successfully shape their capacities to handle these challenges will determine their success in the VUCA world. ‘‘[B]eyond viewing threats and opportunities as collective; we must seem them as interactive.’’7 Indeed, in the VUCA world, they are quite literally the same thing."
