Research by the Department of Education showed that 310 secondary schools admit to selling fizzy drinks, crisps and sweets from their tuck shops

According to reports in the Sunday Times, the Department of Education is reluctant to introduce a ban because vending machines generate €1.3million a year in income for schools.
In the absence of a legal ban, school management boards have the ultimate say on what type of food is sold to students"
