"Stroke is the second primary cause of death in the world and the most common life-threatening neurological disorder.
It is estimated that in 2010, nearly 17 million people had a stroke for the first time, and nearly six million of them died worldwide. There are 33 million stroke survivors, who live with considerable physical, emotional and functional hardships.
Half of stroke survivors are left with some degree of physical and cognitive impairment, and about 20% will need institutional care."
