Young obese diabetics fuel rise in amputations
"Doctors warn that although amputations are most common in patients over the age of 65, they are also being carried out on patients in their thirties who have type 2 diabetes brought on by obesity.
Doctors suspect that patients who develop type 2 diabetes when they are young, usually because they are overweight or obese, have a more aggressive form of the disease that can lead to serious complications, including the need for amputation."
