Dean Harris: Change easier said than done

"Not all change has to be that drastic.
There are many opportunities in our lives for change, for the better.
They don’t have to be wholesale changes all at once, but perhaps small steps that can lead to big strides.
Maybe you brew up a fresh batch of iced tea to take to work instead of having a soda at your desk all day.
Or you opt for a salad rather than pizza or a burger at lunch.
That’s not to say that you never get to savor that bacon cheeseburger or fried foods, but if that is your daily diet it probably isn’t going to end well.
Grab a piece of fruit rather than a mid-morning candy bar.
Be active….whether it is out doing yard work or going for an evening walk, exercise is healthy on many levels. And if you go for a walk with your significant other, that is also an opportunity for conversation that might not occur if you’re both sitting in front of the television…..which is also healthy in its own right.
Hey, it’s not like much on television is “must see” material these days.
Our bad habits are probably never going to entirely go away.
Let’s face it, we all have them. It’s part of the human condition.
But we don’t have to be resigned to bad habits, because we also have it within our power to make the changes that improve our lives…..whether they are changes which are beneficial to our health, to our relationships with others, to our lifestyles, to our careers."
