Innovation: Tumour board-introducing real time to oncology management.

"Over a decade ago, Petty and Vetto7 acknowledged “[t]here is little solid evidence to support the belief that tumour conferences directly impact the care patients receive.” Furthermore, work of Keating et al.8 observed only weak associations between multidisciplinary tumour board and measures of use, quality and survival. Blayney9 critically concluded that “huddles, lab meetings, cooperative group meetings, or attending physician rounds don't get the job done.” Ultimately, tumour board do not influence the quality of cancer care, which is their intended purpose.10 Despite these noted challenges, traditional perspectives die hard. We must now focus on modernizing the tumour board to reflect current medical care realities, address the limited effectiveness of the current paradigm and include the need for patient integration into a real-time decision-making process."
