Put cancer agency's work on hold
Posted: December 30, 2012 - 12:13am
We welcomed this week’s call by Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Joe Straus for the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to stop approving grants until its credibility can be restored.
That pause in the agency’s issuance of grants also should include $85 million in new grants approved Dec. 5. The moratorium requested by Perry, Dewhurst and Straus didn’t directly address those grants, but at this point, the agency is in such shambles that it’s necessary it put its work on hold pending legislative reforms.
