CPRIT needs a thorough overhaul

Questions began to emerge about how those funds are distributed last summer when the institute's chief science officer resigned over a $20 million grant to Houston's M.D. Anderson Cancer Center that he said was insufficiently vetted and influenced by political considerations. CPRIT Executive Director Bill Gimson promised changes that would “ensure we are the best possible stewards of the trust placed in us by the people of Texas.”

The lack of transparency and failure to maintain an accountable system of grants distributions is completely unacceptable for an organization entrusted with $3 billion in public funds.
