Physicians must make medicolegal discussion a part of their conversation. “Patient safety and quality care has clearly emerged from the individual-oriented, traditional approach…[and there will be] more focus and scrutiny of health care providers in the future.”⁷ “A good understanding and appreciation of the legal decision making process should assist healthcare professionals in ensuring that their daily work is done in a way that can stand outside scrutiny; this, in turn, enhances patient safety.”
