Private Hospitals Report 700 TB Cases

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has recorded 727 fresh cases of tuberculosis (TB), as reported by private hospitals in the city ever since it was made a notifiable disease by the Union government last May. This is in addition to the 300 cases on an average reported every month from the civic and government hospitals.

"Private hospitals and clinics have collectively reported 727 new TB cases between May 2012 and July 2013. These cases would have earlier gone unnoticed. But after the Union government made TB a notifiable disease, the cases from private clinics and hospitals have started coming on our radar and are counted in the city's disease burden," N D Thakur, chief of the PMC's tuberculosis control unit told TOI on Sunday.
